Fred Goudon: Sunday Morning

Fred Goudon is not only a master of light and shadow. His photographic compositions are also surprising due to the interplay of movement and masculine forms. The model’s posture is never stiffened into a pose, and the naturalness of the expression in Goudon’s photographs is his ultimate working principle, one that he brilliantly achieves again and again. As a fashion and advertising photographer, Goudon’s thorough technical competence becomes thoughtful use of his camera, producing incredibly artistic shots –
shots that always impress through understatement. It conveys intimacy without a trace of kitsch.

“Sunday Morning” is a book dedicated to the weekend. With French flair and surely styled photographic compositions, the photographer allows us a look into strangers’ beds. The artist cloaks his stubbled, luscious men in soft colour and gentle contrasts. His portraits are less sexual than they are highly erotic. The soft lighting from one of the great contemporary French photographers creates fascinating, atmospheric bodily landscapes that make us melt.

After studying journalism in France, Fred Goudon worked as the American correspondent for various magazines and newspapers. Since his return to France he works as a fashion and advertising photographer. He gained special prominence through his book AQUA from Bruno Gmünder Publishing in 2006, as well as his work for the Dieux Du Stade 2006 calendar.
